Food Delivery Tipping Etiquette

The next time you order sushi or a burger from the comfort of your home, be warned. If you don’t leave a tip for your delivery person, you might have to wait a long time for your cold food.

If you haven’t heard, DoorDash has rolled out a pilot program to increase tipping via their app. It goes like this: When you order your food, customers also receive the option to type in a tip amount and proceed or to click the button: “continue without tip” — and face the consequences. “Orders with no tip might take longer to get delivered,” the screen says. “Are you sure you want to continue?”

We’ve asked etiquette expert Nancy Schnoebelen Imbs of Polished to ask her about what she thinks about DoorDash and its push for customers to tip.
